The Builder’s Edition 816ce celebrates the debut of Andy Powers’ reimagined Grand Symphony, now powered by V-Class bracing. In adapting the V-Class framework for the GS, Andy also modified the body design to give it a more distinctive sonic identity — something truer to its name, capable of producing an airier, more complex, “symphonic” acoustic sound.
The new body incorporates a soundport cutaway — a scoop in the treble-side shoulder that houses an off-axis sound port. The port’s sloped position, together with V-Class bracing, produces a rich, high-fidelity voice with a unique acoustic dispersion pattern. The guitar also has incredible touch sensitivity, helped by a shorter 24-7/8-inch scale length and light-gauge (.012-.053) strings. Together, all these elements work together to generate an expansive and fluid voice that radiates out multi-directionally, creating a natural reverb-like effect and filling a room with sound.
Appointments include new mother-of-pearl Windansea fretboard/peghead inlays, maple binding, rosewood top purfling, and ES2 electronics. The soundport cutaway features West African ebony sourced from Taylor’s Crelicam mill in Cameroon. The guitar ships with a Taylor deluxe hardshell case.
