Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can you tune my guitar?
A: Yes we do, but to do a good intonation requires a full set-up of the guitar ie. adjust the truss rod, check that the fingerboard is problem-free and adjust the string height both at the saddle and in the nut The guitar also needs new strings of the right brand and thickness. We do this as a package for electric guitar, then standard strings are included. On an acoustic guitar, a full adjustment is required, and if the guitar needs a new saddle in bone this will cost a little extra.
Q: I just need to change the strings on my guitar, do you do it and how much does it cost?
A: We recommend taking the guitar in for a full set-up for optimal results. The price is 1000-1500SEK for most types of instruments.
Q: How much does it cost to replace the pickup in my electric guitar?
A: If it is a change between mics of the same size, it usually costs around SEK 600 per pickup to do the work. However, if the pickguard needs to be modified, or the pots changed there will be a cost for this.
Q: What type of paint do you use, and how much does it cost to refinish a guitar?
A: We only use cellulose lacquer, and the cost varies from case to case, i.a. depending on which type of instrument it is and how much preparatory work is required to apply new paint, sunburst, etc. It is usually aroung 7-12000SEK for an instrument, but this needs to be re-evaluated from case to case.
Q: Can you also handle renovation jobs on so-called vintage instruments (over 30 years old collector's items) where original parts are important to preserve, and where glue types and lacquer types etc must be matched exactly so as not to lower the value of the instrument?
A: Absolutely: We are thoroughly educated in the field and often have detailed discussions with all knowledgeable Vintage Specialists in the Oscar Guitars staff to achieve absolutely world-class results.
