Back in the day the Gibson Guitar Company was owned by the Chicago Musical Instrument Company. During this timeframe after WWII, CMI needed to fill orders from the Valco Co. and the easiest way to do that was to have the newly acquired Gibson company do this for them. The end result is this! Unlike the model 1135 which has a Gibson L-7 body and is all solid the model 1111 has a Gibson ES-300 body which is laminated, both are 17" wide, later in the early 1950´s National/Valco had Kay make the bodies for these models, more specs:
Specs are: 24 7/8" scale, 1 11/16" nut width, 1 7/16" string spacing at the nut, 2 1/8" spacing at the bridge, 17" lower bout, 12 1/2" upper bout, and 3 1/4" side depth at the endblock. It has a Valco neck (one of their bolt-on/angle-adjustable "Stylist" necks). The neck has no adjustable truss rod but does have a MASSIVE magnesium core that has kept it straight and playing like a champ for all these years.
Materials are: thicker plywood body all-around (with maple veneer), metal-core (with mahogany-wrap) neck, rosewood fretboard and headstock veneer, and pearl inlay in the board. The hardware is entirely original on this instrument -- included the covered, sealed-back Kluson tuners. The two center "dots" are raised poles for the D&G strings. They're set for keeping the string-to-string balance correct for a wound-G set. The bridge has a humbucking, magnetic, vibration-effect pickup installed in it, but we haven´t tested it yet. The base is magnetized and has two little humbucking coils rigged-up in series. Posts from the bridge saddle descend into this coil and in some way drive the unit. The controls are volume/blend,
